When I was dealing with acne and blackhead problems, I tried what seem to be hundreds of facial treatments, and what’s frustrating is, none of them worked! Thus, expensive flowers like orchids, rose and tulips can be raise right in the middle of a busy city like New York and in the dead of winter, like in Valentine’s Day, February 14, when flower prices are very high.

Global revenue from the flower trade in 2003 was US$102 billion and with US consumption of 15% means it spent US$15.4 billion on imported and local flowers. Since 79% is imported, this means that US$15.4 billion x 79% means US$12.2 billion is spent on imports. 70% of imported flowers comes from Columbia and Ecuador. The remaining 9% or US$1.4 billion is probably mostly from Holland for tulips. The Dutch trade 8 billion flowers yearly worth about US$3 billion. Thus, the probable Dutch import quantity is US$1.4 / US$3 * 8 billion flowers or 3.7 billion flowers.
